UCPel Linux operating system was developed for Universidade Católica de Pelotas, based on O.S. Desktop (GNOME version) operating system. The system counts on a simplified installation process, so that the user interaction is limited to only selecting the partitionment mode. Its installation requires an only 11MB CD-ROM, obtaining the rest of the files through the network.

The system is automatically configured to use the centralized authentication and personal directories systems, to better serve the needs of the institution's teachers and students, besides having all the necessary applications included, avoiding that way the administrators' manual intervention.
